Harriet Tubman Early Life

During the mid 1800s there were many historical figures that contributed to the anti slavery movement. Harriet Tubman was well known for her contribution toward the escape of many slaves. Harriet Tubman was born a slave .She was born in Dorchester Maryland during the 1820s.

Harriet Tubman was raised in very harsh conditions. She was often beat as a young child . Cornmeal was her main source of nutrition and meat of some kind as her family had the privilege to hunt and fish, so it was easy to get some of her food. She spent a lot of her time with her grandma. At the age of 6 years old she was able to work, but she didn’t. she always got beat and slacked off at this job the couple gave her the duty of checking muskrat traps.

In 1844 Harriet got married to John Tubman at the age of 25. John Tubman was a free African American. Harriet dream was to travel north, so she can be free and not have to work. Her husband had a different dream, he said that she would never be free because he would turn her in. In 1869 she married again this time to Nelson Davis. She didn’t have any children.

Harriet was finally free, and she free over 300 slave it the south to the north. Her nickname was Mosses because in the bible Moses free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt to freedom.

I idolize Harriet Tubman because even know she was black she still made a difference in the world that we live today in.
